Wedding at Radisson Resort & Spa Lonavala

Lonavala’s newest big-wedding resort, and its most architectural. Kamal S Malik designed it around an open atrium, clad in stone taken from the site itself, so the building looks carved out of the hill rather than placed on it. Radisson built it for destination weddings: seven venues indoors and out, a wedding lawn and two banquet halls, with 103 rooms above. Here is how the spaces work and how we plan the bridal side.

The wedding spaces are built around one big lawn and two large banquet halls, which means the main functions can run back to back without a decor changeover.

The design is the photographer’s gift here: stone walls, deep shadows, the open atrium and long views of the Sahyadri. Couple portraits inside the building are as strong as those on the lawn, which helps if the weather turns.

Our approach
Planning the bridal side at Radisson Lonavala.
A modern stone building has its own light and its own climate. These are the things we plan around.
- Stone, shadow and contrastThe interiors photograph with strong contrast. We keep the base luminous and even, so the skin doesn’t go flat in the shadows or shiny in the light.
- An open atrium breathesThe building is designed to need less air-conditioning, which means the ghat humidity comes inside. We set for humidity indoors as well as out.
- Pick the bridal room by its windowWith 103 rooms over four floors, ask for a suite with a good balcony view and daylight; it doubles as the backdrop for getting-ready photographs.
- Lawn by day, hall by nightMost weddings here move from Raj Sabha in daylight to Raj Bhavan in the evening. We plan two looks for two kinds of light, with a clear change-over time.
