Zorlu Center · Beşiktaş
When the guest list runs into the hundreds and the reception needs a stage worthy of a concert hall, Raffles is the Istanbul answer. Its ballroom links directly to the Zorlu performing arts centre.

Big-ballroom logic
A ballroom of this size is lit like a stage. Coloured washes, LED screens and a photographer and videographer working the room for four hours change what looks good on camera. Shimmer that is lovely at a dinner for fifty can turn into hot spots under spotlights.
For a Raffles reception we build the base in thin layers, keep sparkle to the eyelids and the high points of the cheek, and set the T-zone more firmly than we would for daylight. Lips are long-wear, and an artist stays near the stage for the first hour, when most of the family photographs happen.
The other difference is volume. Big weddings mean more family members wanting makeup on the same evening. We count those people early and size the team so nobody is still in the chair when the doors open.
The hotel is a tower with city and Bosphorus views from upper floors. We ask for a suite with a large window for daylight and a separate room for family makeup on the same floor, so the team can move between them without crossing the lobby.
Reception evening
Mothers, aunts and sisters in the family room, two or three artists working in parallel.
Base, eyes, lashes and hair; around two and a half hours with a change of jewellery.
In the suite and the hotel’s art-filled corridors, before guests arrive.
Powder, lip, pins and a mirror check in ballroom lighting if the team can see the room.
One artist near the stage with blotting papers, powder and lip for the first hour.
Ballroom rules
Several light layers of base, not one heavy one, so skin still looks like skin on 4K video.
Glitter only where light should catch: lid centres and upper cheek.
Extra setting on the T-zone, because a packed dance floor gets warm.
One artist for every three to four people on the busiest evening.

Tejaswini
Large receptions are where planning matters most. Tejaswini has worked through more than a thousand bridal bookings since 2012, and for a Raffles-sized night she sets the family schedule, the bride’s sitting and the stage touch-ups on paper before travel. She does the bride; her team works the family list in parallel.
