A little history

A Belle Époque villa built by Sicily’s richest family.

Villa Igiea was built at the turn of the 20th century for the Florio family, Sicily’s great industrial dynasty, on the shore at Acquasanta. Its salons were decorated by Ernesto Basile, whose Liberty style defines Palermo’s Belle Époque.

It became a grand hotel early in its life and, after a recent restoration, is run by Rocco Forte Hotels, with gardens stepping down to the sea and a pool on the bay.

For a bride, the Liberty salons are a dream for portraits, and the gardens give a sea-view ceremony. We plan a look that suits both the painted walls and the open bay.

Specific to this venue

Villa Igiea details we plan around.

Worth doing

  • Use the Liberty salons for portraits in the heat of the day
  • Plan the ceremony facing the bay in the late afternoon
  • Book the team’s rooms in the hotel
  • Allow for Palermo traffic for any city outing

Worth avoiding

  • Midday outdoor ceremonies in summer
  • Cool-toned makeup against warm painted walls
  • Tight city transfers on the wedding day
  • A glossy base in sea humidity

The wedding day

A typical Villa Igiea wedding day.

  1. 07:00

Team sets up in a sea-view suite

We ask for a room with good window light and a second room close by for family makeup, so the bride’s room stays calm.

  2. 08:30

    Mothers and family first

Family looks run in parallel with the bridal skin prep, timed so nobody waits in the corridor.

  3. 10:30

    Bride’s skin prep and base

Hydration, primer and a base built for sea light by day and painted Liberty salons at night.

  4. 12:30

    Hair, eyes, jewellery and draping

Maang tikka, nath and dupatta set with the outfit on, checked from every angle the photographer will use.

  5. 14:00

Portraits in the Art Nouveau salons and gardens

First photographs while the makeup is at its freshest, before the busiest part of the day.

  6. 15:30

Baraat and pheras at a garden terrace on the bay

One artist stays near the mandap with a touch-up kit: blotting papers, powder, lip and spare pins.

  7. 19:00

    Change for the reception

New lip, refreshed eyes and a second hairstyle if planned; allow 60–75 minutes.
