Why couples choose Jodhpur

A fort on the ridge, a palace on the hill.

Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, who built Mehrangarh on a rocky ridge above the plain. The old city spread below it in blue-washed houses, and in the 20th century Maharaja Umaid Singh added Umaid Bhawan on the opposite hill. Between those two landmarks sit most of the city's wedding venues.

Compared with Jaipur or Udaipur, Jodhpur weddings tend to be more traditional and more Marwari in character. Families often want the bride in a Rajputi poshak for at least one function, with heavy gold, a borla at the parting and the drape set in a particular way.

Traditional Marwar styling

The Rajputi bride, done properly.

Many Jodhpur families have firm expectations for the wedding look. These are the details Tejaswini plans with you before the day.

The poshak drape

The odhni is set so it frames the face without hiding the jewellery, and pinned to stay put through long rituals.

Borla and rakhdi

The parting, the hairline and the bun are built around where the borla sits, not adjusted afterwards.

Heavy gold

Large necklaces and nath change the balance of the face, so contour and lip are chosen with the jewellery in hand.

Ghoonghat moments

If a veil comes down for part of the ceremony, the hair and drape are built for it lifting cleanly.

Marwari and Punjabi in one family

Mixed weddings often want two registers; the looks across functions can carry both.

Mehendi and haldi

Lighter, breathable looks for the daytime functions so the wedding-day look stands out.

Getting it right on the day

Jodhpur logistics.

Distances in Jodhpur are short, but old-city lanes, palace stairs and desert evenings all affect timing.

Short transfers

The airport, Umaid Bhawan and most hotels are close together, which helps on multi-venue days.

Old-city access

For haveli venues like RAAS, the team stays inside or near the walled city for early calls.

Dry air

Skin prep starts a week before; the desert air dries skin quickly, especially in winter.

Cold evenings

December and January nights are cool; outfits and hair are planned with a shawl in mind.

Written schedule

Every family member's slot is set in writing and shared with the planner.

One trip

Tejaswini arrives before the first function and stays until the last.
