Sultanahmet · Old city
Sixty-five rooms in a former prison turned courtyard hotel, a minute’s walk from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. A setting for a small, beautiful wedding rather than a 500-guest celebration.

The building
The building went up between 1918 and 1919 as a prison and was converted into a Four Seasons in 1996. After a full renovation it reopened in 2022 with 65 rooms: 48 guest rooms and 17 suites arranged around an enclosed garden courtyard.
The courtyard is the heart of any wedding here. It is enclosed on all sides, so light is softer and wind is rarely a problem, which suits a delicate, natural bridal look. Step outside and you are in the old city, with some of the most photographed façades in the world for couple portraits.

Small-wedding myths
What people assumeA small wedding needs only one artist.
What actually happensWith the bride, two mothers, sisters and a few cousins, two artists are usually needed to finish on time, even for 60 guests.
What people assumeWe can skip the travel cost by using a local salon.
What actually happensDraping, Indian bridal hair and jewellery setting are specialist work. The family pays for the team’s travel, but the bride gets the artist who planned her look.
What people assumeThe old city is too crowded for portraits.
What actually happensEarly morning is quiet. We can have the bride ready for sunrise photographs outside Hagia Sophia before the crowds arrive.
What people assumeA courtyard wedding is too informal for full bridal makeup.
What actually happensThe courtyard’s soft light is ideal for a detailed traditional look; it photographs beautifully at close range.

Steps from the door

Old-city logistics
Sultanahmet is the busiest historic square in Istanbul. Tour groups arrive from mid-morning, roads around the square are partly pedestrianised, and cars cannot always pull up at the door. For a bride in a heavy lehenga, the practical answer is to do everything early: portraits at first light, then back inside before the square fills.
The square is also framed by working mosques. The call to prayer is part of the atmosphere, and your photographer and planner will want to avoid scheduling a vow moment or a speech across one. We share timings so the bride is not standing outside in full outfit waiting for a pause.
Indoors, the courtyard hotel is quiet. Rooms open onto corridors around the garden rather than onto the street, which keeps the getting-ready morning calm even when the square outside is not.

Tejaswini
Intimate weddings are photographed close up, and that is where Tejaswini’s fourteen years show. She prepares the skin carefully, keeps texture real and builds definition slowly, the same approach she teaches to small batches at her academy in Baner. Fewer guests simply means a smaller team, never a lighter level of care.

Questions
Yes, on an intimate scale. The Sedef Ballroom seats about 200 indoors, and the courtyard and rooftop suit smaller functions and receptions.
Yes. The team size changes, not the care. For a small wedding we often send two artists rather than four.
Visits are possible outside prayer times with modest dress and covered hair. Many couples choose exterior portraits instead, which are easier with a full bridal outfit.
Usually two to three hours before sunrise, depending on the look. We plan it with your photographer.
The family pays the team’s flights, visas and rooms at cost; the quote lists them separately from the artist fee.
Access around the square is restricted at times. Your planner will arrange the best drop-off point; we allow extra minutes for the walk.
We ask for a second room on the same corridor as the bride, so family makeup does not crowd the bridal suite.
