When the guest list is long and everyone needs a bed, this is usually where the conversation ends up. Novotel Imagicaa has 287 rooms — more than any other luxury hotel in the Lonavala area — plus four pillarless banquet halls, a lawn and a theme park next door for the cousins. It sits at the foot of the ghat rather than on top of it, so it is warmer, flatter and quicker to reach from Mumbai.

A seven-storey Accor hotel with mountain, pool and park views. Weddings use the Casper ballroom and the lawn for the main events, with smaller halls for everything else.

Because it is below the ghat, Khopoli is warmer and more humid than Lonavala, especially from March onwards. It also misses the worst of the ghat traffic for guests coming from Mumbai.

- More family looksLarge weddings mean more mothers, aunts and sisters who want a look. We size the team to the list so the bride’s time is never squeezed.
- Lifts and corridorsIn a seven-storey hotel, the walk from room to ballroom includes a lift. We time the bride’s exit with the photographer and the family so there is no waiting in a corridor in full lehenga.
- Ballroom lightingIndoor banquets under warm light need a little more definition than a lawn in daylight. We plan the evening look for the room.
