Wedding makeup at Taj Lake Palace

Every guest arrives by boat, every photograph has water in it, and there is nowhere to send a forgotten pin. Taj Lake Palace is Udaipur's most romantic venue and its most logistically demanding one for a bride's beauty team.

How bookings work

From Pune to an island on Pichola.

Tejaswini is based in Pune and travels to Udaipur before your functions. On an island venue she needs to stay on property or on a fixed boat schedule, so this is agreed with the hotel when you book. Travel and accommodation for her, and for any extra artists, are added at cost.

Why it is special

A summer palace that seems to float.

The palace was built in the 1740s on Jag Niwas island as a pleasure palace for Maharana Jagat Singh II of Mewar. White marble, courtyards, fountains and terraces cover almost the whole island, so from the shore it looks as if it rests on the water.

It became a hotel in 1963 and is now run by Taj. Its fame comes partly from film and partly from the view back to the City Palace, which is directly across the lake.

Weddings here are small by Rajasthani standards. The island limits numbers, and many families hold the large functions on the mainland and keep the Lake Palace for the ceremony or a private dinner.

Island logistics

What to sort out with the hotel.

Worth doing

  • Confirm where the beauty team stays and the boat times for early calls
  • Keep the full touch-up kit on the island all day
  • Plan portraits in the hour before sunset
  • Choose hair that survives a windy boat ride

Worth avoiding

  • Loose waves for the boat arrival
  • Strong shimmer next to white marble and water
  • Assuming the team can pop back to the mainland mid-function
  • A guest list larger than the island comfortably holds

Taj Lake Palace questions

Makeup at Taj Lake Palace.

Does Tejaswini travel to Taj Lake Palace?

She does. Once your date is confirmed she travels from Pune and works from your room at Taj Lake Palace, with fares and stay billed separately.

How large can a Lake Palace wedding be?

The island keeps numbers small; the hotel advises the limit for each space. Many families split functions with a mainland venue.

Will the wind on the lake ruin the hair?

Not if it is built for it. Hair is secured and pinned for the boat, and the dupatta is fixed before you step on board.

What does bridal makeup cost?

A full bridal look, face, hair and drape, starts at Rs 50,000.

Can you also cover functions at another hotel?

Yes. Many Udaipur weddings use two or three venues; the schedule includes transfer time between them.
