Udaivilas is all domes, reflecting pools and gold-leaf ceilings, with the City Palace glowing across the water at night. It photographs beautifully, which means the bride has to as well, from the first courtyard portrait to the last lantern-lit dinner.

The setting
Old hunting grounds, new palace.
The Oberoi Udaivilas opened in 2002 on land that was once part of the Maharana's hunting grounds, on the opposite shore of Lake Pichola from the City Palace. It was designed as a modern Mewari palace: domes, courtyards, fountains and corridors decorated with hand-painted frescoes.
Most rooms open onto a shared pool or a private one. Much of the estate is kept as a nature reserve, so the resort feels quiet even when a wedding is under way.
For a bride, Udaivilas means water everywhere: reflecting pools in the courtyards, the lake beyond, and pools outside the rooms. Water adds sparkle to photographs and also reflects strong light up onto the face.

Looks for Udaivilas
Four functions, four settings.
Mehendi in a courtyard
Shaded arches and fountains. A soft, fresh face and an easy braid.
Sangeet on the lawns
Lights strung across the garden. Defined eyes and a long-wear base for dancing.
Lakeside pheras
The City Palace behind you and the lake reflecting light. A satin finish with a deeper lip.
Dinner by the water
Lanterns and candles. Warmth in the cheeks and a lip that reads in low light.
