Our experience
What it is actually like to get a bride ready inside a fort.
Fort JadhavGadh photographs beautifully, and that is the easy part. The parts nobody warns you about are the light, the stone, the stairs and the drive. Here is what we found.
- The light inside is warm and lowThe heritage suites have small windows set deep into thick stone walls, and the lamps are warm. That is lovely to sit in and unhelpful to match a base in. We set up next to the largest window available and finish with a daylight-balanced lamp, because a base that looks perfect under a warm bulb reads orange the moment the bride steps into the courtyard.
- Golden hour on the ramparts is the shotThe west-facing ramparts, with the Saswad hills behind, are where the best portraits from this wedding came from. It is a short window — roughly the last forty minutes before sunset. Ask your photographer to block it out and make sure the bride is finished and free well before it, not during it.
- Everything involves stepsCourtyards, ramparts, the museum, the lawns — they connect by stone staircases, some of them uneven. That affects the drape more than the makeup. We pin a Paithani or a heavy lehenga tighter here than we would in a banquet hall, and we walk the route with the bride once before the function.
- Open-air functions mean open-air weatherThe lawns, the poolside and the rooftop are all outdoors. December and January here are cool and dry, which is why the season is what it is. In the shoulder months plan for heat and humidity on the skin, and for wind on the hair and the dupatta.
- The drive decides your call timeIt is about thirty kilometres from Pune, but the last stretch is a state road, so budget an hour rather than forty minutes and more in morning traffic. The honest fix is to stay on site the night before. If your artist is travelling out in the morning for a sunrise muhurat, that is a 3 a.m. start for them and it shows in the timeline.
- Stay inside the fort if you canWith 58 rooms on the property, most wedding parties book the whole thing. It removes the single biggest source of delay at this venue, which is people travelling in from Pune between functions.

The venue
What Fort JadhavGadh actually is.
A fortified Maratha residence built around three hundred years ago by Pilaji Jadhav, a commander under the Peshwas, and restored into a heritage hotel. It sits at Jadhavwadi on the Hadapsar–Saswad road, about thirty kilometres from Pune city. The stone, the bastions and the courtyards are the original fabric; the rooms, pool and spa were built into it. You will see it spelled Fort JadhavGADH, Fort Jadhavgadh and Fort Jadhavgarh — they are all the same place. The hotel itself uses Fort JadhavGADH.

A worked example
Two days, 150 guests, 40 rooms held for two nights, four catered functions. Using the published rates above: rooms come to about ₹8 lakh, catering to about ₹12.6 lakh, and decor at a fort realistically lands well above the ₹1 lakh starting figure. Add bridal beauty, photography, music, the priest and transport and you are in the region of ₹25 to ₹30 lakh before taxes. That is consistent with the ₹23 lakh per day full-property figure, which is usually the better deal once you are past roughly forty rooms.
What people forget to budget
- Taxes and service chargeListed per-plate and room rates are almost never inclusive. Ask for the all-in figure in writing.
- Panel decoratorsThe venue allows decorators from its own panel only. That removes your ability to shop the decor quote around, which is the single biggest swing in a fort wedding budget.
- AlcoholIn-house only; outside alcohol is not permitted, per the venue's published policy. Price it against the bar menu, not against retail.
- Guest transportThirty kilometres each way for anyone not staying on site, usually across several functions. Coaches add up quickly.
