Bridal makeup at The Leela Palace Udaipur

All 80 rooms at The Leela face Lake Pichola, with the Lake Palace in the middle distance and the City Palace beside it. Weddings here are close-knit, lakeside and photographed at sunset, which shapes how the bride's makeup is built.

About The Leela

Built to look old, built to face the water.

The Leela Palace Udaipur opened in 2009 on the northern bank of Lake Pichola. It was built new, in the style of a Mewar palace, with courtyards, domes, painted corridors and terraces stepping down to the lake.

Every room looks out over the water, and the hotel runs boats on Pichola for guests. The Lake Palace and the City Palace are both in view, which is why so many sunset portraits in Udaipur are shot from here.

The venue spaces suit weddings of a few hundred guests. Larger families often use The Leela for the ceremony and a second hotel for the bigger functions.

At The Leela

Leela Udaipur tips.

Worth doing

  • Time the ceremony for the last hour of light
  • Book a boat ride for couple portraits on Pichola
  • Keep a second room for family makeup
  • Plan for a lake breeze in the evening

Worth avoiding

  • Heavy shimmer for sunset photographs
  • Overloading a 300-guest venue with too many functions
  • Unpinned dupattas on lakeside terraces
  • Starting the bride after the family
